A primary school east of Alotau, on the road to East Cape, which is the easternmost point of the ‘mainland’ of PNG. Some of the students on the right; children have interrupted educations, they may be called out of school for years to help around home, so it is not unusual for people to finish primary school in their 20s. The group on the centre photo is the welcoming committee. The formal welcome involved them pointing spears at us, I’m glad we weren’t unwelcome!
